“Fallout”, one of the most anticipated series of 2024, has finally arrived on Amazon Prime Video. Now, all eight episodes of the debut season of the series created and written by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet are now available on the streaming platform.
Even with productions like HBO’s “The Last of Us” delivering good game adaptations in recent years, fans of the Bethesda Softworks franchise were skeptical about the quality of the series. Mainly because it has a more comprehensive character and targets a more diverse audience. And not just those who played the games.
However, the involvement of Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan as producers left the series surrounded by great expectations, as the couple had a successful partnership in “Westworld”, highly praised, especially in its first two seasons.
“Fallout” says what it came from in the first minutes
In its first minutes, “Fallout” shows that it is not just any adaptation. It features a great opening scene that explains how a nuclear war destroyed civilization. This first sequence also shows the high level of production, which has excellent visual effects by TV series standards and even surpasses some blockbusters with budgets in the hundreds of millions.
Another undeniable merit of the series is how the narrative illustrates and defines very well the difference between the humans who live in the luxurious underground shelters of Vault-Tec, far from nuclear radiation and with resources practically impossible to find on the surface, and the Wastelands, as they are. called the small communities that remained.
While the descendants of those who were able to pay to live in the nuclear bunkers think that they will be the “saviors of the United States” and cultivate “good American values and customs”, those who live on the surface simply seek to survive regardless of what has to be done.
Although it deals with heavy themes, “Fallout” does not leave good humor aside and creates an even “light” environment in the midst of so much chaos, destruction and tragedy. Thus, some action sequences are so absurd that they can even end up getting a good laugh from the viewer, even with extremely violent scenes.
We can compare the violence in the “Fallout” series with that in the films of American filmmaker Quentin Tarantino. And we highlight here that each element placed in the series was designed to entertain the viewer.
Cast is the highlight of “Fallout” on Prime Video
The talented cast is also one of the highlights of Prime Video’s production. Names like Ella Purnell playing the protagonist Lucy. In addition to Walter Goggins as “The Ghoul”, Aaron Clifton Moten as Maximus and Kyle MacLachlan as Hank, who once again participates in a sci-fi production.
MacLachlan became known for starring in Twin Peaks, one of the most important science fiction productions ever produced by the entertainment industry. Another notable role for the 65-year-old actor was Paul Atreides in the first adaptation of “Dune”. This was directed by David Lynch and hit theaters in 1984.
Even seeking a wider audience, “Fallout” should especially please those who have already played any of the games in the franchise. This portion of viewers will understand the references. And you should have a lot of fun with the “fan services”. The soundtrack is also one of the high points of the series. The focus is on songs from the 1950s, a period in which the nuclear apocalypse occurred, thus giving the production a unique characteristic.
Finally, “Fallout”, from Prime Video, is certainly one of the best adaptations of recent games. And it could serve to consolidate the franchise, which is almost thirty years old, as one of the biggest icons in pop culture. Just like HBO’s “The Last of Us” did in 2023.
We are looking forward to the second season, depending on the production of the series, we hope it will be on prime video in 2025, until then, we can only wait.
